leaning tower in pisa

Time and poor craftsmanship have played a part in the leaning of this building. The tower began leaning many years ago mainly down to poor foundations being laid at the base of the structure. The tower has been restored on many occasions and extensive work has been carried out to ensure the structure continues to lean but does not tilt to a dangerous level. There are about 15 arches in the first storey while the next six have around 30 arches, which surround the tower.
